Academy Announce School Football Festivals

Derby County Ladies are pleased to announce that they will once again be holding their annual Schools Football Festival, to be held at the Powerleague Soccerdome on Pride Park.

The event will take place across two separate days in March and is open to schools across Derbyshire for young girls in school years 3-6. The event is held in conjunction with Derby County Girls Centre of Excellence, Derby County Football in the Community Scheme and the Derbyshire FA.

The first event will take place on the 13th March from 10:30am and will be for children in Year 3 and Year 4. The event is expected to end around 1:30pm and the event format will be 6-a-side with squads of 8 allowed.

The second event will take place a week later on the 20th March, commencing from  the earlier time of 9:30am and will be for children in Year 5 and Year 6. Thus event will approximately finish at around 2:30pm and again the format will be 6-a-side with squads of 8 allowed.

Academy Director Dave Cholerton said “Our Schools Football Festival has been a big hit in recent years and it is great to see that so many schools are embracing women’s football and want to get involved, giving the young girls a chance to experience football and having a great day.

“It was little surprise to see so many youngsters at our trials last summer and a lot of them came from the Schools Football Festivals that we put on so it shows that if you give the opportunities for them to play football, a lot of the girls wanted to play further.

“This year we are looking to welcome as many schools as possible and we are back at the Soccerdome which is a great venue for the event. We’d love to see schools that have taken part in previous years and as many new schools as possible too and as those that have been before will tell you, it is always a great day for all those that take part.”
