Academy Update 13th/14th January

It was back to normal for the Derby County Ladies Academy this week as the weather cleared up for all scheduled fixtures to be played across the weekend.

With Cup action being the order of the day for a few of our teams, the stand-out performance came from the Under 14’s in the league, as they took the game to Nottinghamshire based side Dunkirk to come away with a 9-1 win.

The Under 11 Black Socks were in action against Chellaston and had another strong performance as they continue to impress against all teams in their friendly games and build on their strong development.

The Under 12’s were in Cup action and made it through to the Quarter Finals of the Central Warwickshire League Cup with impressive victories over Coton Green and Leicester City in a double header. They await news of their next opponents in the Cup.

The Under 16’s were also in action twice over the weekend and were in very competitive games against local rivals, narrowly losing 1-0 to Burton Albion but picking up a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The Under 15’s are through to the knockout stages of the their Cup competition as they secured two hard fought victories over Birmingham and Leicester to advance with 1-0 wins in both.

Elsewhere, the Under 10’s again continued their impressive development and look to be working hard on their skills and their match fitness in their recent games.

Academy Director Dave Cholerton said “It’s been a good week for the Academy again, it’s always tough coming back after Christmas and hitting the ground running after a break.

“It’s been pleasing to see the dedication to continue to work at training to improve ourselves with our coaches and we look forward to the second-half of the season and hopefully we can pick up some more silverware along the way.

“Plans are already beginning to be formalised for next season and we hope to continue the great strides we have made so far this season. A big thank you to all the coaches and the parents for their support.”
