Derby County Ladies Football Club

Academy Update – 4th/5th November

Derby County Ladies Academy had a mixed weekend as the elements forced a number of fixtures to be postponed, but also suffering a couple of defeats.

The standout team this weekend saw the Under 13’s Black Socks come out with an 8-0 over Blidworth, a win that saw them cement their place at the top of the table and sit four points ahead of their nearest rivals.

Elsewhere, there was a good win in the cup for the Under 12’s, who had been frustrated in recent weeks with a number of postponements, but they took on close rivals Solihull and were 3-0 winners to move to the next round.

With Alvaston Park games called off due to waterlogged pitches and with the weather likely to get worse, Academy Director Dave Cholerton is keen to see players add their game day commitment into their training sessions to keep up the intensity.

Cholerton said “It’s been frustrating over the last few weeks with a few games called off and this next 6 weeks, could see more games called off and little match action for teams and it’s been pleasing to see some of our sides use training sessions to bring in match action.

“This week we had a couple of tough losses and it will be good to see how those teams respond in the next few games, which will show the character of each side and I have no doubt they will come out of it positively.

“It was pleasing to see our younger sides come out with wins and they continue to impress me with their attitude and it shows we have a bright future.”
