Derby County Ladies Football Club

Pre-Season Fixtures Announced

Derby County Ladies will face Women’s Super League (WSL) and Women’s Premier League  (WPL) Division One opposition in a packed pre-season schedule, as they gear up for the 2017/18 season.

With our usual Mickleover Sports ground unavailable, venues for some of the pre-season fixtures are yet to be confirmed, with the club making the details available as soon as they are known.

The Ewe Rams will face stiff opposition across their pre-season fixtures, none more so than taking on WSL side Sheffield FC in their first pre-season outing on the 16th July at Derby University.

The week after Manager John Bennett takes his side to play Midlands Premier One side Radcliffe Olympic LFC, tough opponents after finishing 4th in the league.

Next the Ewe Rams face MK Dons LFC on the 30th July as they ramp up their pre-season against the South East Division One Runners-Up.

Two tough final matches against high-flying Midlands Division One teams Loughborough Foxes and Sporting Khalsa, who finished 2nd and 3rd in their league respectively, on the 6th and 13th of August completes their pre-season preparations.

Bennett told DCLFC Media that these games are just what is needed before they embark on a new campaign “We want to go into the new season as fully prepared as possible and the opponents that we have got will give us a stern test and see where we are as a team.

“Sheffield are establishing themselves as a good WSL side and it will be the acid test for our ability, to see where we are compared to them.

“The other fixtures are against lower league opposition but there is very little between these leagues and they were all challenging for promotion last season and could easily have been playing us in the coming season.

“We don’t expect them to roll over, they will come and try and get a scalp from the league above and we will not be underestimating them. They will be coming to beat us and we need to make sure that we do prepare correctly.

Further details on the venues and times of matches yet to be confirmed will be announced when possible.
