Rotherham United Ladies Match Preview (WPL Cup)

Derby County Ladies return to action after last week’s postponement against Fylde LFC, with a Women’s Premier League Cup clash against Rotherham United.

With Manager John Bennett absent, Director of Football Sam Griffiths and Assistant Manager Jenny Simpson are in charge and are itching to get back to action after the bright start to the season.

Simpson said “We’ve worked hard at training and keeping the intensity up has been our focus with the enforced week off. It’s not ideal particularly after a good start to season but the WPL Cup clash with Rotherham gives us an opportunity to put out another good performance.

“We’ve come up short in the past against lower league opposition and so we won’t be taking Rotherham lightly, there a good side and we want to get some momentum going ahead of next week’s league match against Nottingham Forest.”

Derby County Ladies have been boosted by the return of Lisa Giampalma, Leanne De Silva and Georgia Hewitt to the squad but will be without a number of other players including goalkeeper Sarah Morgan, with Zoe Millington deputising.

Griffiths told DCLFC Media “It will be a good opportunity to have a look at some of the other players that didn’t get as much game time as hoped in the 1st game of the season, but we also want to go far in the cup and know that we will have to be switched on.

“There has been some hard work put in on the training ground across pre-season and we want to continue the work JB started before his absence and have the results going our way before he comes back.”

Known for her combative style and never say die attitude, She’ll be looking at adding more goals to her tally and leading the line as they look to make the next round.

Rotherham United Ladies – A View on the Opposition

The Millers have yet to get their season off and running with two early postponements and will be wanting to get back on the pitch. They struggled last season and finished in 11th in Midlands Division One but have had a more settled pre-season and will be keen to show what they can do against higher league opposition.

Manager – Simon Darke

Key PlayerLeanne Carter – Having been at the Millers last season, the club will look towards Carter for her experience. Now in her 4th season at Rotherham, she will likely be the glue that holds the Millers together and will be one to watch.
