Sunderland clash up for Grabs but Ewe Rams Manager Bennett focusing on Brighouse Town

This Sunday’s re-arranged SSE Women’s FA Cup Clash between Derby County Ladies and Brighouse Town Ladies has added extra meaning after the 4th Round threw up a possible clash with WSL1 side Sunderland.

Bad weather in the lead up to last weekend’s original date has seen the tie re-arranged for this coming Sunday at Mickleover Sports FC and for Manager John Bennett, it is about seeing the job through before looking to the Black Cats.

“We’re under no illusions that we have a real battle on our hands with Brighouse and it is important that the team don’t look beyond that first and put in the work that they will need to do to get through to that clash with Sunderland.

“We’ve not played since the beginning of December and if we come into the match with our eyes already on Sunderland then we will get picked off. We will need to get over our rustiness quickly and focus on the job in hand.

“We have an experienced bunch of players though so I am confident that those that could be tempted to look ahead are reigned back in by the squad and we know it will be tough and we can’t take Brighouse lightly.

“Obviously the carrot has been dangled with a trip to Sunderland and that will be a great reward should we get the job done. They are a team that have yet to apply for the new structure, so it will be interesting to see where they are at.

“It would be a possible scalp for us but first of all we need to make sure that we are not a team that is scalped ourselves and so Sunday is really important and a good week at training is essential for us to blow off the cobwebs and get back into our groove.”

Sunday’s tie with Brighouse Town Ladies is a 1pm kick-off and entry is free for all DCFC Season Ticket Holders on production of their card. For all others it is £3 Adults and £2 Children.
