Under 13's  White Socks News

An early kick off to blow the cobwebs off as the girls looked to get back to winning ways.

Derby kicked off and apart from an early corner the first few minutes were fairly even but then Derby opened the scoring, the ball was picked up by the midfielder who made space for herself and sent a shot from just outside the box past the keeper and into the net.

Pride Park came straight back looking for a quick equaliser and earned a corner which was well defended. Derby had a chance to double their lead shortly after but the shot slid just wide of the keepers right hand post and moments later a lovely through ball was well defended by Pride Park.

Derby were certainly not having it their own way and Pride park had a spell of pressure in which they could easily have equalised, firstly the Derby keeper had to be quick off her line to collect the ball on the edge of the box after a quick ball over the top and then a great save from a speculative shot following a quick throw midway in the Derby half.

With half time approaching Derby doubled their lead, in a frantic few minutes they won a corner, the ball evaded everyone but was picked up and crossed back into a crowded penalty area, a shot hit the post and was cleared, Pride Park broke quickly but were stopped by some great defending on the halfway line, a neat ball again found a Derby midfielder who took on two defenders, worked her way into the box and rifled a shot past the keeper.

Derby had gained the upper hand again and but for some very good defending by Pride Park could have made it 3 before half time.

Half Time 2 : 0

The second half started evenly, with neither keeper being tested but gradually Derby began to play some very good football and were soon three goals to the good, the ball was quickly played out from the back down the right, an excellent cross-field ball found the Derby winger who's cross was met at the back post for 3:0.

Even though Pride Park were three goals down they still looked for a way back into the game, a free kick sailed just wide, another effort was well saved for a corner and following another throw into the box a shot over the bar.

Derby were playing some neat one touch football and but for some excellent defending would have been further ahead, a shot from the edge of the box was tipped round the post and the resulting corner was well saved.

Pride Park were still not out of it but after a series of balls into the box from throw ins came to nothing the game was effectively over and the final few minutes were played out without any further score.

Full-time 3:0

A special mention this week has to go to all the parents and coaches of both sides for observing the F.A's Silent Sideline weekend, it was a pleasure to watch an entertaining game of football played between two very competitive teams.
