Derby County Ladies U13s White Socks Win Their First Trophy of the New Season 

DCLFC U13s, winners of the league last season, played Pride Park Juniors, cup winners last season, in the Challenge Shield on 9th September. The match was player in changeable weather at Alvaston Park.

Both teams started well in their first competitive matches of the new season. The two teams adopted different tactics with Pride Park playing long balls out from the back for their main striker to run on to, while Derby were passing and dribbling the ball along the ground. Pride Park had the better of the chances initially as the pitch conditions suited the long ball over the top.

With halftime looming Derby broke down the left wing and centred the ball to the edge of Pride Park’s penalty area. The Derby Striker beat the defender with an excellent turn and struck the ball low and hard into the left bottom corner of the net. 1-0 to Derby at half time.

The goal seemed to give Derby the confidence to attack in force as they started the second half the stronger of the two teams, forcing some good saves from the Pride Park keeper. Pride Park fought back with some strong attacks making the Derby defence work hard, including the keeper how made several good saves.

Derby’s attacking play resulted in them scoring a second, with the same striker shooting across goal inside the box to slot the ball into the bottom corner again.

Derby scored a third when the midfield player a long cross-field ball from just inside their own half which the winger ran onto and calmly slotted to ball to the right of the approaching keeper into the back of the net.

The final whistle blew with Derby winning 3-0. This was a really good strong team performance by Derby, who play their first league match at Alvaston next Saturday.
