Stanton vs DCLFC

Derby kicked off looking to avenge their first ever competitive league defeat and they meant business,  for the first 15 minutes they were camped in Stantons' half, they had four corners in quick succession which were well defended.

Stanton finally got the ball to the halfway line but their attack was quickly broken up and a great through ball saw the strikers first time shot tipped round the post for another corner.  Derby survived a little scare after a long ball over the top ended up out for a goal kick but  that signalled the start of a four goal frenzy before half time.

The deadlock was broken after a quick throw was picked up on the edge of the area, the Derby midfielder worked her way into the box and planted a shot past the keeper. Stanton rallied but soon found themselves further behind after their corner was cleared, Derby broke quickly and although the first shot was saved the follow up was put beyond the keeper for the second, a minute later and it was three, a great cross in from the left evaded the Stanton defence and was met at the far post with a neat finish.

Stanton soon pulled one back after the ball wasn't cleared from a cross and a first time shot from the edge of the box beat the keeper.  Derby should have made it four on the stroke of half time but a brilliant double save from the Stanton keeper keep the deficit to just two goals.

Half Time 1 : 3

It was an even start to the second half with Derby having the first chance, a shot just over the bar following a great through ball and then Stanton forcing an excellent save from a first time effort from the edge of the box. The next 15 minutes were tit for tat with neither side able to get a grip on the game but you still felt that the girls needed another goal to be safe.

As the half wore on Derby began to pile the pressure on, they earned three corners which were well defended and moments later they were unlucky not to have a fourth after a goal kick fell straight to a Derby midfielder whose shot was saved for a corner.  Stanton were still in the game and saw a shot sail just over the bar following a throw from the left.

Derby again came close following a free kick but the Stanton defence cleared, another attack and another great save by the keeper,  it looked as though that was the last of the action but as the final whistle approached they made it four with a fine individual effort,  the ball was picked up in midfield, a brilliant run through the defence and the shot smashed past the keeper from just inside the box.

This was another fine team performance and the girls thoroughly deserved the win against another very tough side.
