Derby County Ladies Football Club

Academy Report 21/22 Sept

Another strong weekend for Derby County Ladies Academy last weekend saw continued development for all sides with Academy Director Dave Cholerton seeing further improvements across all age groups.

This season the Ewe Rams Academy’s youngest age group is the Under 9’s and Cholerton has been helping to coach the youngest age group along with Development Team star Lauren Taft and both have been wowed by the teams performance.

Cholerton said “For our youngest age group, it’s about getting them to enjoy the game and learn the basics and fundamentals but the way they have settled as a team and are putting the club’s philosophy into practise already is showing great intelligence at such a young age.

“Last week the girls were working the ball across the back and getting into a good shape and that ensured they created opportunities due to the space they were able to get into.

“The standard of the game is growing each season and that is testament to the popularity of the game. We are looking forward to creating future stars for this football club and we have no doubt that we will see more home grown stars in our first team in the coming seasons.”

The Community side put in an improved performance but ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat to Beaumont Park LFC in the East Midlands Women’s Regional League and will look to pick up their first points this weekend.

Our Under 11 team fought out a tough 0-0 draw with Burton Albion LFC Under 12’s White Socks in a high quality encounter, whilst the Under 12’s were high scoring winners against Shardlow with a 15-0 win with Alex scoring 7 of those goals.

The Under 13’s continued their excellent start to the season with a 7-0 win with goals shared across the side but there was a heavy defeat for the Under 12’s Black Socks who faced Division 1 side Belper Nailers.

The Under 14’s were 7-1 winners against Boldmere Falcons with again, goals spread out across the team who remain unbeaten and with a 100% record.

Likewise the Under 15’s also remain with a 100% record intact after a 3-0 win against Solihull. They face Leicester City WFC Under 15’s this weekend in a crucial early season encounter.

The Under 16’s also sit at the top of the table after a 2-1 win against Kingshurst with Kelsey scoring both goals and they will look to stay ahead of the pack this weekend against Leamington Lions.
