Derby County Ladies Football Club

Academy Update 11th/12th November

There were again some fantastic results for the Derby County Ladies Academy this week with wins for the 16’s, 13’s Black Socks and 12’s.

Derby County Ladies Under 12’s were one of the star performers this week with a 5-0 win over local rivals Boldmere Falcons, that took them back to the top of the table.

Having been frustrated in recent weeks with league matches being postponed, the Under 12’s took their frustration out on their opponents to leapfrog them, back to the top of the table with Lydia Cope on hand to score a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, the Under 16’s had a fantastic 6-1 win over Shrewsbury Juniors to leapfrog their opponents in the league, which remains close with just 6 points separating the top 7.

The Under 13’s maintained there unbeaten record to move seven points clear at the top of the Nottinghamshire Girls League with a stunning 7-1 win over West Bridgford Colts. There record of six wins and a draw is unmatched.

The Under 15’s had one of those games that saw them do everything right but put the ball into the back of the net regularly as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Leamington, despite numerous missed chances and a disallowed goal. They remain in touch in the Central Warwickshire Girls League, sitting five points off the leaders but with a game in hand.

The Under 13’s White Socks were held to a 2-2 draw with Alfreton, whilst both the Under 11’s faced each other in a cracking match, whilst the Under 10’s had positive performances in their weekly matches.

Academy Director Dave Cholerton said “It’s another pleasing week and we continue to see some excellent performances and particularly in the Central Warwickshire League’s, we are seeing our teams get some great competition that is testing their skills.

“It was great to see our Under 11’s face off against each other once again and there are some seriously talented players coming through at all levels. This is what we want to see as we want our first team to be taking the best talent coming up through our ranks.

“It was pleasing to see a former Academy star of ours, Amy Sims get her first goal for the first team on Sunday in the dramatic 3-2 win over local rivals Nottingham Forest Ladies and I know it was a good day for the youngsters again and one that they are taking inspiration from.”
