Annual Awards Celebrate Clubs Success

Derby County Ladies held their Annual Presentation Night for the 2018/19 Season this past weekend at Pride Park Stadium, celebrating another record breaking season amid the club’s impressive growth.

With the club providing football for 13 age groups from under 9’s to 1st Team football, and with two new teams being added for next season, Academy Director Dave Cholerton lauded the success of the club.

Cholerton said “Our Annual Presentation Night is about us celebrating the success of the club at all age groups from our youngest side through to our inspiring first team.

“To have a room jam-packed full of players and their family all working towards a common goal to develop women football players is a proud moment and one I never thought would get so big.

“This year the Presentation Team made some changes to the format and the event and I was delighted with how smooth it went and this also shows what a great team we have off the pitch too.

“To hold it at Pride Park Stadium where we have been welcomed so much by the main club is fantastic and as our CEO quite rightly said, whilst we are Derby County Ladies, more importantly, we are Derby County and we are One Club.”

The Annual Awards have continued to grow in numbers but the common goal of the club is about development for both players and coaches and this years awards were reflected in this goal.

This change saw three categories across all age groups with a Players Player Award, Sporting Award and Development Award all introduced. Another change saw long service recognition to many members of the club as Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards were introduced.

Reflecting on the season CEO Duncan Gibb said “This is my favourite event each year as we get everybody in the club together and it is so inspiring to see the youngsters celebrating their continued development. Their was barely any standing room and it shows our great parents and families are supporting their children and the club too.

“We are lucky to have such a great first team who are inspiring our next generation and it was fantastic to have our Manager Sam Griffiths and 1st Team Coach Jenny Simpson there, as well as 1st team stars Hannah Ward, Sarah Morgan, Andi Bell and Emily Joyce handing out the awards.

“These youngsters are seeing the success that they are having and replicating it for their respective teams and we are going to have one hell of a team in the future and it’s a really proud moment.

“I was particularly impressed with the night and how it ran so smoothly, I’d like to pass my thanks onto our Presentation Team of Dave Cholerton, Andy Moore, Alison Cope, Dave Marriott and Stuart Cokayne, without them this event wouldn’t be the success it was.”
