England Under 19 Star Domingo joins Ewe Rams

Derby County Ladies have added a fifth Summer signing with the capture of England Under 19 International Sophie Domingo from Leicester City Women ahead of the 2019/20 FA National League Northern Division campaign.

The stylish winger made 22 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions last season and the Ewe Rams know all about the talent of Domingo, who scored three goals against the club in the 2017/18 season.

Speaking to DCLFC media, Domingo is looking forward to the season and is impressed with the clubs plans moving forward. Sophie said “I am feeling excited for the new season, it’s a chance for a fresh start and new challenges. I am looking forward to playing with a new squad and to be managed by a new set of staff.

“I was attracted to Derby because of its positive vibe. The clubs ambitions are very high and the confidence they have shown in me, as a player, is something that I really value. The club has a great set up and I think that it can go far not just this season but in future seasons to come.

“I hope to develop and improve as a player whilst at the club as well as getting back to enjoying the game! With the squad that they are beginning to build and in their early signings I can see that the club are serious about achieving this season.”

Domingo is the fifth summer signing for the Ewe Rams and third from East Midlands rivals Leicester City Women and having been tormented by the winger for a number of seasons, boss Samantha Griffiths is delighted to have signed the young talent.

Griffiths said “Getting Sophie over the line was a real coup for me, over previous seasons she has caused Derby real problems with her creative flare and exceptional pace.

“Hopefully now Sophie will be able to cause the opposition similar problems to the ones we faced. She’s an exciting young talent that I look forward to coaching this season.

“The squad is shaping up really nicely and we have done as much of our business on the pitch as early as possible so that we can get a great pre-season under our belt and the players can really gel together. I’m excited for the season but we have a lot of hard work to do.”
