Ewe Rams Add Third Summer Signing as Darby Joins

Derby County Ladies are delighted to have signed former Nottingham Forest Ladies Captain Kelly Darby ahead of the 2019/20 FA National League Northern Division Season.

The Central Defender was a Northern Division League Champion with West Bromwich Albion Women back in the 2015/16 season before playing her football at East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest Ladies for the past two season where she made 48 appearances, scoring 5 goals.

Making the move up the A52, Darby is excited to be involved with the club as it looks to make the next step in the game and said “I’m excited to be joining the club at such an exciting time. I have had various meetings and conversations with Sam over the past couple of months and each time it has confirmed that this is a club I want to be involved in.

“I can’t wait to to get on the training ground now with all the girls and work towards the new season. I feel that making the move to Derby County Ladies was the best thing for me to do as the staff and players are building something exciting here and the few sessions/matches I have been involved in so far shows that the players and staff support each other on and off the field, and that is something that will drive this club to achieve big things.

“Having won this league a few years ago I want to bring that experience into this team and help drive this team to achieving league success which over the years we have all seen derby improve season upon season.”

The Central Defender is the third confirmed signing ahead of the 2019/20 season and Manager Sam Griffiths is delighted to have added another experienced head to her squad and is pleased with how it is shaping up ahead of the return to pre-season training.

Griffiths said “Kelly has been on our radar for a while since leaving Nottingham Forest Ladies and i’ve always been a fan of her leadership qualities and technical ability on the ball. Her presence as a centre half is really important to us, its something we needed to add to our squad.

“She has a really good work ethic and drive to achieve to be the best she can. I’m looking forward to working with her at Derby and helping her develop further as footballer. She is a former winner in this league and that is huge and will hopefully drive her on to get their again and our other players to join her in this journey.

“We’ve got three experienced and exciting signings so far and I’m really pleased with how we are shaping up. We’ll continue to see who is available but it’s exciting that we are getting a squad together that I believe is capable of being right in the mix next season.”
