Ewe Rams Begin with Trip to Newly Promoted Clarettes

Derby County Ladies will get their 2019/20 FA National League Northern Division Campaign underway with a visit to newly promoted Burnley Women.

The Ewe Rams will make the trip to the Clarettes on the 18th August before the League Cup comes into action the following weekend with the draw yet to be made for the competition.

The following week sees the club make the trip to Hull City before a Midlands double in the following week as we welcome Loughborough Foxes at home before the A52 rivalry with Nottingham Forest Women is resumed.

Manager Sam Griffiths believes the set of fixtures this season are the toughest yet and the Ewe rams will need to be hitting the ground running.

Griffiths said “It’s pleasing to get the fixtures out now and we can start to plan for the season. Facing a side, away from home that are full of confidence after promotion is a tough start.

“The league is so strong now and we have to be ready for Burnley on the first game and build on our confidence from the end of last season and get some early points on the board in those first few games.

“It’s a long old season and there will be a number of clubs that will be eyeing a promotion challenge. It’s so open this season but i’m confident that we have recruited well and go in with our own ambitions.”

Other standout fixtures will see the Ewes host Stoke City on the 8th December, with the return fixture on the final day of the season in May. The return date for the Nottingham Forest Women game on the 9th February.

Griffiths continued “The middle of the season is a war of attrition when the weather changes, the pitches change and the injuries set in. If we can be in and among the pack come the New Year it will leave the season nicely poised.

“Our record last season was good and we are confident that we can go to places and pick up points. I don’t think there will be a standout team like Blackburn over the last few seasons.

“We’ll need the backing of our fans and Academy like last season and they will will us on when we need them most. New fans have been coming down each season an hopefully the World Cup will inspire more to come down.”

Our Fixtures can be found above and will be online in from tomorrow. All Fixtures and venues are subject to change, which we will communicate as and when we know.
