Ewe Rams Make Double Swoop for Stoke City Ladies Pair

Derby County Ladies have made a double swoop from local rivals Stoke City Ladies to sign Striker Hannah Keryakoplis and Centre-Back Emily Owen ahead of the 2019/20 FA National League Northern Division Campaign.

Welsh International Keryakoplis scored 26 goals in 29 appearances for the Potters last season, whilst former Aston Villa defender Owen added 12 goals last season but both have made the move down the A50 to join Sam Griffiths side.

Griffiths told DCLFC Media “I’m delighted to get both Hannah and Emily into the squad this season, both have been outstanding players for Stoke for a number of seasons and they both bring outstanding qualities that will compliment the squad we are building here.

“Hannah has been prolific over the last couple of seasons and that is an area that we wanted to strengthen this season. We’ve had some good battles with her over the last few seasons and she’s a winner and that’s something that cannot be overlooked.

“Emily has been a rock at the heart of the Stoke defence and her experience, strength and eye for a goal from the backline is another great asset for us to have. Like Hannah, she wears her heart on her sleeve and I’m looking forward to her commanding presence for us.

“These are two great additions that I’m delighted to have join in and we have put together a squad that I believe can have a big say in the league this year. We wanted to get our business done early to get the new additions settled and get the squad together and playing so they can gel ahead of the season.”

Defender Owen, joined the Potters in 2016 having previously had spells at Sheffield FC, Wolves, WBA and Aston Villa and is looking forward to starting her Ewe Rams career after many battles over recent seasons.

Owen said “I really enjoyed my time at Stoke City Ladies but felt I needed a fresh start somewhere else and I think the move to Derby County Ladies is great for myself and I’m looking forward to playing with the team and working under Sam.

“Some of my favourite games over the last few seasons have been against Derby County Ladies and I always enjoyed the physical battle with them. I think I can add something to this squad and its an exciting time. The squad has evolved and we have made some quality signings and I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Striker Keryakoplis is another who has enjoyed the battles with Derby County Ladies in recent seasons and is excited at the potential of the squad and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

Keryakoplis said “I’m delighted to join the Ewe Rams and I’m looking forward to continuing where I left off last season and scoring goals for the club. The potential and structure of both the squad and the club in general is fantastic and I’m hoping I can play a big part in firing in the goals.

“It was a tough decision to leave everyone at Stoke City Ladies and I made some great friends and enjoyed my time there. However, I felt I needed a new challenge and Derby County Ladies ticked all the boxes for me and I’m looking forward to joining up with the squad and getting down to some hard work to prepare for the new season.”
