Ewe Rams to Lend Support to Neptune’s Poppy Appeal

A delegation from Derby County FC Ladies will be turning their hand to fund raising, as part of Derby pub The Neptune’s highly acclaimed Poppy Appeal.

CEO, Duncan Gibb will be joined by first team players, Cara Newton and Leah Kellogg in undertaking a two hour stint on the pub’s outdoor collection desk between 10am – 12noon. According to Gibb, the club are happy to support an initiative that has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a fully deserving cause over the past decade.

“The Neptune is an integral part of the ‘Derby County DNA’, as well as being widely recognised both locally and regionally for its sterling efforts to raise awareness and money for a whole host of local good causes. In terms of the poppy appeal element of that, a whole host of Derby County fans and local people, brave all weathers to take turns in manning their collection desk, and we felt that doing our bit aligned perfectly with the aims and objectives of our Community Engagement Programme (COP)

“The Neptune Poppy Appeal was started 10 years ago by landlord Steve Kirk, who has seen its profile and delivery grow significantly during that time. “It started out through the odd football scratch card, raising a few hundred pounds; however it really started to take off seven years ago when fundraising hit the £1,000 mark on the back of an armed forces day raffle. Since then, I’ve done a 15 mile row and various other quirky things which sit nicely alongside the collection desk that sits outside the pub.

“Last year we raised a staggering £17,300, taking fundraising to date to over £50,000, which is testament to both our customers and those within the local community, that come together each year to either collect or donate.

We are delighted that staff and players from Derby County FC Ladies are taking time out of their busy schedule to help with this year’s collection, and hope that through the profile that the club has within the city, that they will help raise further awareness of our efforts.”
