Derby County Ladies Football Club

Game Week 22 with Academy Director Dave Cholerton

As we reach the back end of the season, behind the scenes we start to think about next season and that really kicks off this coming week as we hold our first of two Schools Festivals.

This is a great event for children across the county but also allows youngsters to learn the game and hopefully look to join a club, whether that is with us at one of our Development Days but if not we encourage new players to join the growing women’s game.

The u16 showed great resilience to come from 2-0 down for the second game running. The Ewe Rams were at home against Stourbridge in the quarter final of the cup. It took two early Stourbridge goals to get the Derby team into gear. Chloe got the team back into the game and Beth equalised. Stourbridge were unlucky to concede an own goal with only a few minutes to play but this saw Derby go through to the semi final of the cup.

The u15 were at home to a much improved Burton. The Ewe Rams took an early lead from a brave header from Iesha. Burton remained in the game and scored with the last kick of the half from a corner. Derby came out for the second half with greater intensity and from an excellent cross, Maggie found the bottom corner to put the team 2-1 up. Derby couldn’t find the third goal so they experienced a tense finished to the game but held on to win 2-1.

The u14 black socks were away to Alvechurch. The Ewe Rams defended so well but Alvechurch were awarded a penalty with 6 minutes to play from which they scored. As the black socks pushed for an equaliser, Alvechurch broke and scored to win the game 2-0.

The u12 black socks drew 1-1 to Littleover and the u12 white socks lost 8-0 to Toton. The u10 and u9 played Belper and Burton.
