Derby County Ladies Football Club

Game Week 6 with Academy Director Dave Cholerton

This season we have a mix of new teams and established teams that all have the primary goal of building the development of the girls that will hopefully see many of them in the future turn out for the 1st Team.

Some are more advanced than others and we can see that we have lots of strong teams but equally I have been delighted with our new teams and this season for them it is all about getting game time in and giving them a wider knowledge of game management which for some teams is at a very early stage.

Our Warwickshire League representatives not only faced their most competitive opponents of the season to date but the blusterous conditions presented them with an added challenge this weekend.

However, the conditions are the same for both teams and the u14 and u16 played their part in very entertaining games.

U16 faced Telford, who like Derby, have built on last season’s achievement assembling a very talented squad. On current standings this fixture involved first versus second in the league. The away team had the better of the play in the opening 15 minutes but Derby scored twice in 2 minutes with a goals from Eden and Jess. Telford converted a penalty making the score 2-1 going into half-time.

A third goal for Derby from Jet saw a response from Telford to make it 3-2 and a nervy last 5 minutes but Derby held on to make it 6 wins out of 6.

U14 black socks were involved in an end to end game with Leicester City that could have resulted in a win for either team but the game ended 4-4. The Ewe Rams are the first team to take a point from Leicester this season and this is a mark of their development this season.

The u15 lost 8-0 to Leicester who look to be the stand out team in their league this season whilst the U14 White Socks were on the winning side of an 8-0 victory against Derwent.

Our U12 White Socks lost 6-0 to Stretton; the Staffordshire team showed that they are a very strong opponent with the new Ewe Rams team continue to work towards their development and look stronger each game.

Our U12 in the Derbyshire League, had one of their most competitive games against Belper but our talented squad went on to win 5-1 with goals from Ayla, Imogen, Hollie 2 and Jasmine. The U9 and u10 worked hard at a windy Racecourse in their games versus Burton and Belper respectively.
