Derby County Ladies Football Club

Match Preview – Nottingham Forest Ladies

Derby County Ladies return to FA Women’s Premier League action this weekend, hoping to put last week’s 3-0 loss behind them with a win over local rivals Nottingham Forest Ladies.

Last week’s result left manager John Bennett rueing a host of missed chances and costly mistakes after dominating for much of the match but believes his side can go on and climb up the table.

Bennett said “We didn’t get what we deserved last week and I’ve drummed into the team that they have to go out and take it rather than expect it to come to them.

“We need to go out and replicate what we do in training as we see the intensity there and we are not getting that on the pitch most of the time. We showed last week that we can match any team in this league but we need to be selfish and take what we deserve.

“Our last game against Nottingham Forest was our worst performance of the season, it was a dreadful game and they nicked it so I expect better from both sides this time and we have to prepare for what will be a well set-up side and we need to be at our best to get three points. ”

Key Player

Shannon Weston – The combative midfielder has settled back into the centre of the park after missing the early part of the season due to work commitments. A strong battling ball player, she adds bite into the centre of the park, a trait that has often been missing from the Ewe Rams. Not only renowned for her battling skills, she is a creative force and can develop chances for the forwards, whilst also utilising her box-to-box capabilities.

Nottingham Forest Ladies – A View on the Opposition

The visitors currently sit in 7th place in the league on 14 points but will have been disappointed in their last two results and will be hoping to come away with the double over the Ewe Rams this season. Under manager Graham Abercrombie, Forest have become a well set-up side and are more consistent this season and will remain confident of snatching a top 4 spot. They have goals across the side but have not played for a couple of weeks and that could work in their favour with a fresh look to their side.

Manager – Graham Abercrombie

Key PlayerHazzana Parnell – The only goalscorer in the game last time out, Parnell was a constant threat and having moved across the Midlands with manager Graham Abercrombie, he will know what she can offer to the side and with 6 goals this season, she is the leading scorer at the club and one player the Ewe Rams will be keen to keep in check.
