Michalska Excited to be Back

Derby County Ladies have added Jodie Michalska to their ranks with the former Sheffield WFC star eager to get back to playing after a long absence.

The prolific goalscorer has been out of the game for around 3 years due to both injury and the birth of her second child but the forward believes now is the right time to return.

Michalska said “I’m excited to be back in football, it’s been a bitter-sweet time away from the game. It’s been frustrating with the ankle injury that I just couldn’t get right and despite attempts to come back, it just needed surgery and rest.

“Having my second child was the sweet part about being away and it’s fantastic being a mum to my two kids but I also wanted to get back to the game when the time was right and I feel that is now with Derby County Ladies.

“They have a great set-up and hopefully my experience will get the club up the table to where they want to be and the talent here is excellent and if i can get back to what i do best, i’m hopeful of contributing.”

The striker returned in last week’s 2-1 victory in the league over Stoke City WFC and Boss Sam Griffiths believes Michalska’s natural instinct and experience can help the team achieve it’s goals.

Griffiths said “I’m really pleased to bring Jodie into the squad, she has bags of experience and i’m hoping that she can be another added bonus as we look to climb the table.

“We’ve scored more goals than we ever had before this season but when the opportunity to bring a player with the natural instinct that Jodie has, it was a no brainer and she has settled in quickly.

“I would say that she has a different style to what our other forwards have in that she is that poacher that is in the right place at the right time but she also has so much more to her game and we want her to use her pace down the channels and to hold the ball up as well.”

Jodie will be available for selection for this afternoon’s game with Burnley WFC which will now be played at Derby University in a 2pm Kick-Off.
