Derby County Ladies Football Club

Pre-Match Pack : Hull City Ladies

Derby County Ladies Boss Sam Griffiths goes into Sunday’s game with Hull City Ladies with high hopes that a run can see the Ewes reach their highest ever position this season.

Having been frustrated with last weeks postponement against Middlesbrough on the back of their crushing 10-0 win over Bradford City Women in January, Griffiths is hoping a win can set them up for a busy week.

“We’re itching to play but we know the weather can intervene at this time of year and we’ve not had it as bad as last year.

“It has given us a chance to work on things and get over a few niggly injuries and we are in a good position but we now need to transfer that positivity into results.

“It’s a big week with three tough games and this could define our whole season to a degree. We’re moving forward all the time as a club and we can see that we are on the field too.

“It always takes time on the pitch but we are really pleased with the progress we are making but we need to make sure that this translates into results but we are confident that we are going to click any moment now and find that consistency that in the past has let us down.”

Key Player – Karagh Tait

The Ewe Rams youngster is into her second season with the club and has made the move to centre-half alongside either skipper Hannah Ward or Defender Grace Harrison. The impressive youngster is versatile and consistent, making her an attractive option in both defence and her position last season in Midfield. With the world at her footballing feet, we are expecting big things from Karagh in a Ewe Rams shirt!

A Focus on Hull City Ladies

It’s been a positive first season for the Tigress’ in the FA National League Northern Division and they sit comfortably in mid-table which will already equate as progess after promotion last season. They showed what quality they have In their ranks in the first encounter between the two teams earlier in the season, coming from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw. Last season saw the Ewes sneak past Hull City Ladies in the FA Cup last season and it is expected that it will be a close match at Derby University on Sunday.

Hull City Ladies Key Player – Hope Knight

The leading scorer for the Tigress team this season, Knight has hit 8 goals this term which has been crucial in all but securing their place in the division. Last season as Hull gained promotion, the striker hit an impressive 23 goals in the campaign to lead the line and secure a place in the FA National League Northern Division. The Ewes will be wary of her threat up top and if they can keep Knight quiet, it will go a long way to securing the right result for the Ewes.
