Derby County Ladies Football Club

Pre-Match Pack: Loughborough Foxes WFC

Derby County Ladies go looking for their third straight win on the bounce tonight as they return to Mickleover Sports for the first time this season to take on Loughborough Foxes in the FAWNL with kick-off at 7:45pm.

Manager Sam Griffiths believes the game against their local rivals will be a tough test and will be looking for them to replicate their second-half performance at Hull City Ladies tonight .

Griffiths said “We we’re disappointed at half-time on Sunday in our performance but we made adjustments and for 30 minutes in that second-half we looked like the team I know we can be and want to see more of that.

“Loughborough Foxes had a good opening win but have since lost their last two games so we know that they will be looking to make amends for that tonight and they will want to come away with something from the game.

“Our focus will be doing what we do well and returning home for the first time this season, we’re looking forward too and we’re hoping to see the Ewe Rams new and old come out and support us.

“We’ve got a great following now and we hope to see lots of new youngsters come over the course of the season with our new Junior Season Ticket initiative and we need to make sure that as a team, we are giving them the commitment on the pitch to come away with the positive results and help to build our fanbase.

“I’m pleased to have added Izzy Ford from Sheffield United to our squad this week and she is an exciting young player with England Youth International experience and she has settled in with us really well and will go straight into the squad tonight. “

One of the longest serving Ewe Rams in the squad, Sarah shares goalkeeping duties with Leah Kellogg and helps to command a defence that last season conceded just 35 goals and will be looking to do so again this season. A confident shot-stopper, the former Coventry City goalkeeper has been a consistent performer for the Ewe Rams and is into her 8th consecutive season and is close to 150 appearances for the club. Tonight could see her inch closer to the magical 150 appearance mark as she looks to help guide the Ewes to promotion this season.

The Foxes from Loughborough re-joined the Northern Division for the 2019/20 season after finishing a repectable 7th in the Soutthern Division last season after a re-shuffle of the leagues. An opening day 7-3 win over Hull City Ladies got them off to a flying start before they were pegged back by promotion chasing Huddersfield Town Ladies in a 6-0 loss last weekend after also losing in the League Cup to Division One side Brighouse Town (We know about that!) They will be looking to get back on track tonight and hoping that in-form Becky McGrother can once again start hitting the back of the net.
