Pre-Match Pack: Nottingham Forest Ladies

Derby County Ladies Manager Sam Griffiths is relishing Sunday’s game with local rivals Nottingham Forest Ladies, a game that is being played at Pride Park Stadium and is expected to attract a bumper crowd with ticket sales already over 1000.

However, Griffiths has ensured that the focus on the pitch has been kept low-key and that expectations have not risen in what will no doubt be a pressure game and a test of the Ewe Rams new found mental strength.

Griffiths said “When we discussed playing the Nottingham Forest match at Pride Park, we sat down with the board and each and every one of us thought it was a fantastic idea and something that would be a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

“In the past, we have probably not played at our best when in high-pressure environments and we wanted to ensure that the hype off the pitch, which we knew would be their, was not transferred over to the squad and that the occasion would get to them.

“Credit where credit is due, apart from the initial player photoshoot, the board have left us to get on with what we do best and have done all the work and not involved us so that we can concentrate in creating plans and ensuring that we are well prepared for Sunday.

Key Player – Callan Barber

The talented midfielder made the move the Derby County Ladies in pre-season and has been a driving force in their early season form. Signed from Coventry United Ladies, Callan has endured a frustrating few years with injury but now is ready to show what she can do on the pitch once again. Part of a midfield trio that has changed the Ewe Rams style of play, Callan acts as the holding midfielder and is often found dictating the play and moving the team from defence into attack.

A Focus on Nottingham Forest Ladies

The Reds have started the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division in similar fashion to the Ewe Rams with a couple of solid wins against Bradford City and TNS and hard fought draw with Fylde. Graham Abercrombie’s side will go into the match in confident mood and will be hoping to come away with the bragging rights until later in the season. Last season they finished 9th in the league, two places and 7 points behind the Ewe Rams but with changes across both teams, it will be a different ball game.

Nottingham Forest Ladies Key Player – Georgia Hewitt

The Ewe Rams will no all about the threat that Georgia offers to sides and she will be looking to get one over on her former side and lead the Reds to victory this afternoon. The winger has electric pace and can leave players behind at the drop of a hot and with an eye for goal as seen with goals against Fylde and Rotherham United last season. If the Ewe Rams can stifle the threat of their former player, it will go a long way to settling the East Midlands derby.
