Derby County Ladies Football Club

Pre-Match Pack: Sheffield LFC

Derby County Ladies head to the home of football this evening looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, after a 3-1 loss to Fylde LFC last weekend with boss Sam Griffiths keen to see that the Ewe Rams have no hangover from the setback.

Sheffield LFC go into the game in confident mood as last weekend they beat Stoke City Ladies 2-0 and they look to be finding their feet in the FA Women’s National League Northern Division after a tough early baptism, something Griffiths is wary of.

Griffiths said “First and foremost we need to bounce back quickly after last weekend. It was a poor first-half from us and it left us too much to do but their were positives in the second-half for sure and we dominated as we tried to get back into the match.

“It was not to be however, and so i’m keen to see what response we get from the loss and hopefully see the character that this side has. This is an incredibly competitive league and it seems that teams are picking up points against each other so getting back on track quickly is key for us.

“Sheffield took a few games to get going but we can see the quality they have in their squad and we need to be at our best to come away with the win. We go into every game confident of coming away with something but it’s going to be a great showcase under the lights again and I can’t wait to go!”

Key Player – Rachael Ball

Having joined the Ewe Rams in the summer from Stoke City Ladies, Rachael has settled into the squad and made the left-back position her own in the absence of Camilla Newton through injury, putting in impressive performances and creating an added attacking threat down the left flank. Her ability to drive at defenders has seen her create numerous chances for the team and she continues to play her part in a Ewe Rams defence that has formed a solid partnership so far this season.

A Focus on Sheffield Ladies

Another one of the teams that were affected by the changes to the league structure, Sheffield asked to be demoted to the FA Women’s National League to regroup and after an in-different start to the season, they are looking like a team that will get stronger as the season progresses. Packed full of talent that includes former Ewe Rams Molly Johnson, Lisa Giampalma and Megan Tinsley, they will be keen to make it back-to-back wins after last weekend’s morale boosting win over Stoke City Ladies and climb the table, whilst denting the Ewe Rams aspirations to challenge towards the top end of the league.

Sheffield Ladies Key Player – Molly Johnson

All Ewe Rams fans will know what to expect from Molly as she plays against the club for the first time since departing in the summer. A former Player of the Year with the club, Molly has the ability to create a chance out of nothing and scored some crucial goals for the Ewes. Predominantly played at left-back, she enjoys a move further up the field too and her never say die attitude and willingness to get stuck in will be a key asset to her game and something the Ewe Rams will be keen to thwart tonight.
