Rebranded Foundation Team Promoted to East Midlands Regional League

Derby County Ladies Foundation Team have been rewarded for their rise in local football and a runners-up spot in 2018/19, joining Chesterfield Ladies in the East Midlands Women’s Regional League next season.

The team are being rebranded as the Derby County Ladies Community Team for next season and Manager Chris Sanders is excited about the challenge they will face next season.

Chris said “We’re delighted to have been promoted to the East Midlands Regional Women’s League and it’s the next logical step for this team and we can’t wait to get going on the training ground to prepare.

“We’ve worked hard to inject the right focus in this team and we won Division Two last year and this year we finished as runners-up to a good Chesterfield Ladies side and we believed that we had a great case to make that step up.

“The challenge now will be to carry this momentum through to next season in a much tougher league and hopefully we can attract some new players to help compliment a great set-up that we have here.

“Not only is it a great achievement for everyone at the club, we are now a club that has an extremely strong pathway through to senior football for our fantastic Academy and i’m excited for what the future holds.”

With the newly branded Community Team under the watchful eye of Academy Director Dave Cholerton, he is also delighted for the team and see’s a clear pathway for an expanding Academy.

Cholerton said “I’m so pleased for Chris (Sanders) and Tom (Hodges), they are two hardworking coaches that believe in our approach and have won successive promotions that have been deserved.

“They have excellent players that are looking to improve and it now means we can also look to improve the side and bring in some players to keep improving the side.

“I’m hoping that we will see our Academy stars move into this side in the future and the pathway we are now creating will only help to improve the club in the long term.

“That is the ultimate aim of any side in any league. If we can self produce players, that is what a sustainable club looks like and with our new Under 18’s Team and our Community Team under the guidance of our excellent coaches, we can aim high.

“We have the clear path for youngsters to develop with us and move onto our three senior sides and that will make us a place for any aspiring footballer to join.”
