Sarah Jackson Joins Ewe Rams Revolution

Derby County Ladies are delighted to have added former England Under 15’s and Under 17’s star, Sarah Jackson to their squad ahead of the 2019/20 FA National League Northern Division season.

Jackson spent the 2018/19 season at East Midlands rivals Leicester City Women in their first season in the FA Women’s Championship and the 23-year old is looking forward to the Ewe Rams upcoming season.

Jackson said “I’m really excited to be joining Derby, it is a club that is showing a lot of ambition and something that I am eager to be apart of. I hope I can bring some of the experience I have gained from the championship to help benefit the side.

“After meeting with Sam and listening to what she is building here it is something I couldn’t say no too. I believe she will help develop me as a player and I’ll get back to enjoying my football.”

Having started her career at FA Women’s Super League side Everton Ladies in their Development Squad, the defender made the move to fellow National League side Sheffield FC Ladies in 2015.

Breaking into their WSL2 squad in 2016, Jackson made 20 appearances for Sheffield before a move to the Foxes ahead of the 2018/19 season where she made 17 appearances across all competitions.

With key areas for recruitment identified ahead of the 2019/20 season, Ewe Rams Boss Sam Griffiths is delighted to have captured the services of Jackson to add FA Championship experience to her squad.

Griffiths said “After losing both our centre-halves due to re-location and America, this was a priority position for us and I knew the type of centre-half I wanted with the right attributes and I feel Sarah has these.

“I’ve seen her play a few times for Sheffield FC Ladies and Leicester City Women and will be a great addition to our squad for next season. The thing I like most about Sarah is her hunger to learn and that’s really important to me, we want players that have that desire to want to improve and be a part of what we are trying to achieve.

“Her experience of playing in the Championship for the past few seasons will compliment our current squad and bring that next level of experience even though she is still young herself.”

Jackson is the second signing for Griffiths ahead of the 2019/20 season after joining another former Championship star, Ellie Gilliatt in making the move to the Ewe Rams.
