Semi-Finals Beckon in County Cup for Ewe Rams

Derby County Ladies Development Team moved into the Semi-Finals of the Derbyshire FA County Cup with an 8-0 win over Hilton Girls.

Having progressed into the Quarter-Finals before Christmas with a win over Pride Park Ladies, the Ewe Rams remained on course to bounce back from their only ever defeat in the competition in the Final last season.

The Ewes took an early lead inside 10 minutes when a through ball was latched onto by Danni Oxley, who superbly slotted beyond the Hilton Girls goalkeeper.

The visitors frustrated the hosts for a period as the Ewes went in search of a second but resolute defending kept the deficit at just the one goal until just before the half-hour.

Three goals in quick succession killed the tie as first Pilar Isanta-Parcerisa tapped home from a corner inside the 6-yard box, before moments later Ella Ritchie fired home to triple the lead.

On the half-hour, Oxley got her second of the game with an unstoppable 25-yard effort that nestled into the top corner, before Ritchie pounced to get her second and a fifth for the Ewes on 36 minutes.

Just before the break, a sixth goal was added as Isanta-Parcerisa got her brace firing home for a 6-0 lead at the break.

An early goal from Louisa Abbey after the break came when she was slotted through and made no mistake for a 7-0 lead but the visitors once again dug in, throwing themselves into a long period of holding the Ewes at bay.

However, with tiredness settling in, the Ewes added an eighth as substitute Amber-Leigh Denny found a pin-point cross for another substitute Ciara Fray to nod home just before the end for an 8-0 win to progress into the last four of the competition.

Manager Tommy Booth said “It was a solid enough performance from the team, we had chances to make it a bigger scoreline but sometimes we were guilty of trying to do too much in the final third.

“Credit to Hilton, they have some really good players and they defended really well and it was frustrating for us at times and we need to be better and more clinical going into Sunday’s game at Long Eaton.

“However, it gave us a chance to try a few things and give a few players some time in the team, particularly those that are coming back from injuries and need game time to get up to speed.”

The Development Team are next in action this Sunday as they travel up the road to local rivals Long Eaton United Ladies Reserves in the FA Midlands Reserve League at Grange Park in a 2pm Kick-Off.
