Under 10 Black Socks Reach Cup Final

A dominant performance by the U10s Black Socks Team against a strong Belper side saw them progress to the DGLL Challenge Cup Final in May.

Derby were always in control of the game, with Belper finding it difficult to get out of their half. Any time they did cross the half way line, Emma and Ruby in defence closed the space and cleared our lines so that in the whole sixty minutes Belper were unable to force a significant save from our keeper.

In the opening twenty minutes, Courtney, Faith and Riya made a number of good runs at the Belper defence, but they were playing three at the back and it was difficult for the girls to create a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Hannah made a couple of driving runs through the middle before opening the scoring for Derby after 20 minutes, with a close range shot.

Just before half-time Faith’s cross in to the box was missed by the Belper keeper and Riya was at the back post to tap in the second goal. It was tough on the goalkeeper as she had had an excellent first half and was why Derby were only two ahead at the interval.

In the second half Derby were more clinical. Faith made a number of runs down the right wing and through the middle of the pitch. Two of these runs produced a goal for her and a tap in for Abigail who scored another two goals in quick succession to complete a hat-trick.

A run through the middle with a calm finish was followed by a half volley on the edge of the box in to the top corner.

The scoring was completed late-on when Courtney added the seventh.

All the girls worked hard and battled for one another. Although they didn’t get on the score sheet, Emmie, Mimi and Lerayah were integral to a strong team performance.
