Match Summary

Today’s match was a reverse feature of a game that the Derby County Ladies FC U12 (White Socks) lost 0 – 4 to Wirksworth Colt U13 girls. The previous result may have affected the way the DCLFC U12 (White Socks) Girls started this game. In addition, the windy condition made it very difficult for the DCLFC U12 (White Socks) to play in their trade-made free flowing passing football.

The above notwithstanding, the 5 – 2 score-line did not reflect how closely matched both teams were. The DCLFC (White Socks) Girls conceded three goal between the fifth and eight minutes. These three goals made a significant difference to the outcome of today’s match.

Despite conceding three goals within three minutes during the first eight minutes of this match, the DCLFC (White Socks) Girls continued to be disciplined with and without possession. The game became balanced with good attacking and defending display from both sides.

The DCLFC (White Socks) Girls were very unfortunate to concede again from a well taken half-volley goal from Wirksworth Colt during the 15 minutes of this match. Even after going 4 – 0 down, the DCLFC (White Socks) Girls dominated the match between the 15 and the 35th minutes (half-time).

During the 19 minutes of this match, Kelcie pulled one goal back from a typical DCLFC (White Socks) passing move. Afterwards, Imogen won a free kick close the penalty area just before the end of the 1st half. Ruby’s well taken free-kick was parried by the Wirksworth Colt U13’s goalkeeper and Ayla scored from the re-bound thereby reducing the deficit to 4 – 2.

The DCLFC (White Socks) Girls came back stronger for the 2nd half, they closed Wirksworth Colt down and played with more confidence and intensity. Despite, the DCLFC (White Socks) been the better side during the 2nd half, they conceded a fifth goal making it 5 – 2 during the sixth minutes after the resumption of play.

Special commendation to Florrie, Kelcie and Charlotte for their player of the match (POTM) performance today. Today was the first match that all fourteen Girls were available for a league match this season. We are proud of the progress that this new team has made and the strong bond of mutual respect and friendship that is developing among these group of skilful, hard-working and disciplined Girls.

Today’s match was our 9th league game of the season and the DCLFC (White Socks) Girls should be proud of their individual and collective display so far. Five of these nine matches were played against the top-three teams in the U13 Derbyshire Girls and Ladies Football League.

We are optimistic that the outcomes of our matches during the 2nd half of this season will be significantly better than our results during the 1st half of the 2019/20 football season.
