Under 18's Match Report

DCLFC U18s hosted Coventry City LFC U18s for their first home game of the season at a sun drenched Broomfield College.

Derby dominated the game in the first 10 minutes with a couple of shots at goal but straight to keeper putting Coventry under pressure straight away.  As the first half progressed Derby started to loose their composure and their early crisp passing and movement seemed to be deserting them allowIng Coventry to grab a foothold in the game with some decent possession of their own.

However, Derby still looked the more threatening of the two sides and with 16 mins on the clock Derby were awarded corner, Beth took the corner striking the ball with pace at near post which the unfortunate but excellent Coventry keeper could only parry into her own net to give Derby a 1-0 lead.

Derby started to regain their early dominance with some great flowing football between Beth and Alex but Coventry keeper reading it well and got to the ball.  Another corner for Derby after great run from Jet and well defended from coventry.

Great ball from chloe to jess but well defended from Coventry again.   Then layla has a shot and saved by keeper.

Game very equal with 5 minutes to go in the first half then Coventry have space and run down the wing putting Derby defence under pressure but stopped by a great tackle from our Captain Abbie.  This was followed by a great ball from Chloe to Jess and looking like we are going to shoot again but again Coventry's defense very tight with 5 at the back.

Whistle blew for half time Derby 1 Coventry 0.

Derby dominated 2nd half with couple of attempts at goal great but saved by the very impressive Coventry keeper.  Another long ball and run from Coventry and yet again another great tackle from CB Abbie and clears the ball out stopping the run.

Equal play from both teams and tense game another attempt at goal again for Derby but yet again a very well defended Coventry.  A fantastic pass from Heidi picking out Beth’s great run but her attempt on goal didn’t match her run striking the ball wide of the visitors goal. With 70 mins on the clock Coventry equalised from a long speculative ball that wasn’t dealt by the Derby rearguard GOAL 1-1!

Derby ‘s response having conceded a goal was superb and Coventry were only on level terms for 3 mins. On 73 mins Derby regained the lead when Chloe found Anya with a glorious defence splitting pass for Derby’s goal machine to run onto and coolly slot the ball home for 2-1.Derby then created several goal scoring opportunities to put this game out of reach of the visitors but failed to take any of them. Then the inevitable happened albeit in bizarre circumstances. With only 5 mins remaining Coventry equalised for the second time in the game. From a Derby goal kick the ball landed at the Coventry midfielders feet who struck the ball first time from 25 yards with power and accuracy to make it 2-2 and silence the home faithful.

The game then ebbed and flowed with both teams going for the win. With 90 minutes on the clock the referee indicated that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time which seemed spark some renewed energy in the Ewe Rams and they were deservedly rewarded with a winning goal in the 91st minute when Anya set off with a mazy 30 yard run before striking the ball towards the Coventry goal forcing the goalie to pull off yet another fabulous save palming the ball to the right of the goal but on this occasion it was the Derby forward Beth who was first to react to loose ball stroking the ball home into the back of an empty Coventry net to give the Ewe Rams a deserved 3-2 victory in this hi octane encounter at Broomfield College.
